Antique 18thC Louis XVI  Ormolu Mounted Marble Mantel Clock - French Circa 1790

A superb example of a period French Louis XVI black and white marble mantel clock, last quarter 18 century, the white enamel dial with black Arabic numerals  contained within a drum-shaped case surmounted by a biscuit  classical figure of Euterpe and flanked by  gilt bronze mounted fluted circular columns  set on top of black marble square pedestal bases decorated with military trophies, the whole supported on a white marble plinth on toupie feet. The dial is signed Ch. Bertrand, Horologer de L'Acadamie Royal des Sciences; original silk-string movement.
